Train Concert in SLC

One of my favorite bands is train.  I saw them in concert for the first time 15 years ago.  They opened for Matchbox 20 and a friend of mine really wanted to see them.  I agreed to go with him because train was opening.  He also wanted to be right up front and I got suckered into expensive tickets.  Train opened the concert with Meet Virginia....one of my favorite songs, and I felt like I got my money worth and could have left happy right then.  I've seen them twice since and found out they were playing a free concert in downtown SLC this weekend.  I HAD to go.  However, it was downtown, late, and we had already had a babysitter today for a bike ride.  Paul wasn't sure we could take the kids to it but I wanted to try.  I figured it would be easier(because of the crowds) and more fun for the kids if we took the train downtown.

I'm really excited about this experience for a few reasons.  First,  I love train and am so glad we were able to get the concert in. And, I was really excited to share that with the kids and Paul(he'd never seen them). Second, this was the first "real" concert the kids have been to. Third, it was quite an excursion, really late, and I'm excited we were able to pull it off and the kids did great and enjoyed it too.

On the train to go see train in concert

We found a great spot to set up our blanket.  We were pretty far from the stage but up on a ramp so we could actually see over the crowds.  And, we were far enough away from the crowds that we could hang out and not feel like we were being trampled.

Cotton Candy!!! We definitely found ways to make it fun for the kids

The kids rested a lot of the show. I thought they might fall asleep there but they didn't

There were a lot of people!

I was really excited when train finally came on

My favorite song of theirs, and one of my favorite songs ever is "Meet Virginia".  They have played it first at most of the concerts I've been to. They played it 4th last night, I almost got worried they weren't going to play it or wouldn't until after we had to leave.

The light sticks were another way we found to make it fun for the kids

We left before the show was over. We didn't want to stay too late and wanted to make sure to get on a train before the crowds were all trying to do the same thing.  This is us waiting for the train after the concert. It's almost 10 pm at this point....she's a little tired

On the train

A few minutes later.......

........Both of them were asleep

We took the train to our car. We transferred them to the car, and then to their beds at home and they stayed asleep the whole time.

Summer Fun

The kids have still been going to the Home Depot Project the first weekend of the month when we are able to. This last month they made bug cages.  They loved catching bugs to put in it.  I guess there's a pretty funny story of Mimi running down the street after a grasshopper!

Colin had SOOO much fun playing summer soccer.  His coach was great. He kept the kids in line well, on track with what was going on.  He really rewarded Colin for his hard work on the field.

This next video is a little "BLURLY".  Try not to watch it, you'll get dizzy, but listen to Audrey, it's so cute! She loves taking videos and pictures lately.

Audrey really wanted to play this summer so we put her in too. She did awesome at the skills/practice day but when it came to a bunch of kids screaming on the field and fighting over the same ball....she wanted nothing to do with it.  She's really good at it when she plays daddy and Colin but right now the sport is not for her.

 A couple pictures with Mimi

At Snowbird's Cold Air Concert. This night was so much fun. The band was great!

Having a breakfast picnic and playing soccer at the park

We went and got our nails done again while Mimi was here

Father's Day and Lagoon

We had a lot of fun on Father's day at the park. We all went on a family bike ride and then flew kites.  We had a picnic, played frisbee, and just played on the playground and swings.

In June, we also went to Lagoon for a Promise Family Day.  The kids loved it!

The bumper cars were a hit

That night we headed up to the Snowbird Cool Air Concert with Tara and Ben

July 4th 2014

We had a lot of fun celebrating July 4th this year. I was able to get off of work and it was fun that it was on Friday and we didn't have to worry about work the next day.

I showed my mom my July 4th Pinterest board and she took my ideas and did some creative things with the kids for the holiday
Breakfast

We went to the Granite community parade and carnival again. The kids have so much fun with it.

They were so excited to have some treats that they even shared!

More Pinterest ideas! The table looked so cute!

Yummy corn on the cob!

Tara and Ben came over for dinner and brought the four wheelers. The kids had a blast.

We stayed up late enough to do some fire works and sparklers in the dark

Adam and Stephanie Visit! (part 1)

We were so excited to hear that Adam was planning to do the SpartanTrifecta this year because it meant he was coming to Utah for one of the races....and bringing Stephanie with him.  Adam hasn't been here since our wedding and Stephanie hadn't been here yet.  We were so excited to have them and we all had a ton of fun.
The first day they were in town we just took it kind of easy since Adam's race was coming up.  He did the Spartan Beast up at Soldier Hollow and all the girls went to cheer him on.

That night, we all went up to Snowbird to enjoy the views and hang out for the Cool Air Concert.

It was a little bright for the kids in this shot

We all  had a lot of fun during their visit but the kids got pretty tired at times.  Here's Audrey almost ready to sleep at the concert

The next day, we all headed up to Park Silly for some fun!

We ate lunch at High West

The hula hoops were sure a hit!
