New York:Labor Day 2011....visiting Horseheads, Part 1
Last week we headed to NY for 11 days. We were flying out for Justin and Tracy's wedding and decided to make it our biggest trip to NY yet. We have never gone for this long since we've lived out of state. We usually try to cram everything in in much less time. This time we decided to do two weekends and it worked out great. I really felt like we had time to see everyone and not feel like we were rushing around all the time. That being said, I still wish we had more time and were able to see more people.
On Saturday we headed out to catch our 7am flight. We had only had one flight that early since having kids and we had missed the last one. This time we made it, however, it was easier because my dad was here to drop us off. We didn't have to worry about parking the car and getting in from the parking lot. That Saturday was the day that the east coast was getting pounded with Irene. We were lucky that we were flying Southwest, with our layover in Phoenix. Our flights weren't affected by the weather at all.
The kids did great on the flights. I don't think we could have asked for them to be any better behaved. This was our first flight having to buy Colin a seat and it was nice to have that extra seat. ( I hate the thought of buying 4 tickets next year but it will make the flights easier.) Audrey took an hr and a half nap on the second flight. Colin didn't fall asleep.
We got into Buffalo on Saturday night at 4. Jim picked us up in the rental car and we went and met Sheri at Brennan's for dinner. After dinner we headed out to Horseheads. The kids both fell asleep in the car and it was an easy ride.
We had a great time visiting with everyone in Horseheads. My mom's new house is great and has room for everyone. It was wonderful that Adam and Stephanie were able to make it up from DC to visit with us also.
On Sunday morning we headed up to Ithaca to meet Michelle and Justin and their new baby Kayla. We were supposed to have a picnic but the hurricane got in the way of that. Instead, we went to the BoatYard for lunch.

After lunch we went to the Science Center. It was a really neat place. The kids had a lot of fun. However, Colin was so tired from traveling and not sleeping much the night before that he ended up in meltdown mode.
