Every year on Labor Day weekend they have the World Sheepdog Championship competition at Soldier Hollow. Every year for almost the last 8 years we have said we should go. And every year there is some reason we end up not going. This year we finally went. It was actually really neat, and we had fun. They had a lot of things going on.
This was an important day for us also because it was the first time we really went out with Colin since potty training, and it was an hour drive each way. We bought a portable potty chair that can sit on top of the toilet to: 1. give him a better surface area to sit on and 2. keep him from sitting right on the public toilet. We packed his little backpack with the toilet seat, his big boy wipes, extra shorts and underwear. We thought that he would do well but weren't really sure how it would go. He did perfect. He told us when he had to go potty and was able to make it to the potty each time.
There was splash dog competitions where the dogs run and jump into the water and see who jumps the farthest. Colin had a lot of fun watching this. He kept saying "More dog splash". I think that it is something that anyone can do and we could have even brought Simba and Nala and signed them up to do it. Paul says we'll do that next year.
They had a police dog presentation, a dog show, craft vendors, food, and the main event was the sheep dog competition. They were so neat to watch. They had to bring the sheep down off the hill through some gates. They would then go around a pole, back up through some gates and then back into a circle on the ground. Once in that circle they had to divide the 5 sheep into two different groups. Then they rounded them back up and corralled them into a pen.
